November was a busy month for us. This year’s HUNTS course was fully subscribed and we are looking forward to meeting the trainees and taking them through the course schedule. Hopefully, they will enjoy their time on the course and learn how to safely begin hunting or improve their hunting skills.

We ran a range office training course in November. There were initially to be four new range officer candidates on the course, though this number has now dropped to three. I would like to extend my thanks to those of you who put your hands up to do the course. We occasionally lose range officers, sometimes due to age, sometimes changing schedules or relocations. If we were not able to make up the numbers with new recruits the existing team would need to pick up the slack. The more trained range officers there are in the pool, the fewer range officer session each has to complete each year. Again my thanks for your commitment.

The Christmas Gala Shoot will be held at the range on Sunday 10 December. Weather permitting, this should be a fun day for all. Bring the family along. There will be junior and adult events with prizes for event winners in each category. Albany Hunting and Fishing have kindly sponsored part of the event and have donated significant prizes in the adult categories, the prizes on offer are excellent so please come along and give it your best shot. Swazi have again provided the junior section prizes, so kids get your folks to bring you along. For those of you who may wish to know more, there will be a mailshot closer to the event detailing the day’s planned events.

Please be aware we have added an extra range day to the schedule. The range will now also be open for business on Sunday 17th December.

The range bonfire event was held on Saturday 4th November. Sadly attendance was low, I suspect mostly due to the poor weather forecast for that evening. However, those of us who attended had a most enjoyable evening. The weather was much better than was predicted and the excellent bonfire kept us toasty whilst happily setting off our fireworks until late, perhaps a little too late for some of our neighbours!

The new airgun range project recently took a giant leap forward as the necessary earthworks have now been completed. Now that the weather is beginning to improve things should start to move much faster and the new range should begin to take shape soon.

Christmas is very much on the near horizon, I wish all a great festive season and happy hunting if you are lucky enough to get away over the break.

See you at the range.

Peter Britnell.
