Antlers, Horns and Tusks (AHT) Competitions

Game Trophy Competition Rules

• Competitions are open to all financial members of the North Auckland branch of the NZDA and to spouses of members.
• Members must be financial at the time of obtaining the trophy & at the time of entering the trophy.
• Junior class consists of persons that have not attained the age of 18 on the 1st of March of the competition year.
• All trophies must be obtained in a legal and sportsman-like manner in agreement with the Ethics of the NZDA.
• Alters or horns must be on a full, un-mounted complete (lower jaw may be omitted) skull in a clean and wholesome condition. 
• Pigs tusks must be in a complete lower jaw, loosened & easily withdrawn.
• At the time of entry the trophy must be in a natural state, no artificial interference or colouring is allowed.
• One or more trophies may be entered in any one class, except where the association rules allow for the taking of one trophy animal, then only one will be accepted.
• Identification must be attached only in such a form that it can be readily removed, for instance a tied label.
• The branch will take all reasonable care of the entries while in the hands of the branch, but neither the branch nor its representatives will be responsible for loss or damage.
• The judges can request an account of where and how an entry was obtained.
• Trophies taken from domesticated or confined animals will NOT be eligible.
• Broken or damaged entries will be apprised by a panel of at least two judges (qualified measurers) where upon scores, acceptance or non acceptance as decided by this panel, will be final.
• If time allows, entries in any one class will be measured by the same measurer / assistant team.
• Entries must be in the hands of the judges by 9:00pm on measuring night or by an advertised time on a measuring day. With a proviso that the judges have a right to accept a late entry in the case of exceptional circumstances.
• The lodging of an entry in any competition shall be deemed acceptance to these rules.
• Antlers or horns may be measured at any time of the year by two (2) certified branch measurers.
• Entries are to be accompanied by a completed entry form (available at the measuring point on measuring day).

The K. Busby Cup

Awarded for: The best antlers, any species.

Eligibility:  Open to all financial members of the North Auckland Branch (financial at the time of securing the trophy, and at the time of entering the trophy for measurement).

Awarded for: The most symmetrical antlers of merit, any species

The Vipond-Stewart Rose Bowl

Awarded for: The best NZ Red Deer antlers

Eligibility:  Open to all financial members of the North Auckland Branch (financial at the time of securing the trophy, and at the time of entering the trophy for measurement).

The W. Diamond Cup

Awarded for:  The best North Island Red Deer.

Eligibility:  Open to all financial members of the North Auckland Branch (financial at the time of securing the trophy, and at the time of entering the trophy for measurement).

The Mrs. Diamond Shield

Awarded for:  The smallest NZ Red Deer over 6 points.

Eligibility:  Open to all financial members of the North Auckland Branch (financial at the time of securing the trophy, and at the time of entering the trophy for measurement).

The Clark Cup

Awarded for: The best game trophy by a junior on converted Douglas score.

Eligibility:  Open to all junior members of the North Auckland Branch (being under the age of 18 years at the date of securing the trophy).

Awarded for: The best game trophy by a female on converted Douglas score.

Eligibility:  Open to all female members of the North Auckland Branch.

The Mannlicher Cup

Awarded for:  The best Fallow antlers.

Eligibility:  Open to all financial members of the North Auckland Branch (financial at the time of securing the trophy, and at the time of entering the trophy for measurement).

Awarded for:  The best trophy – all species.

Awarded for:  The best Sika antlers.

Eligibility:  Open to all financial members of the North Auckland Branch (financial at the time of securing the trophy, and at the time of entering the trophy for measurement).

Awarded for:  The best Virginia White Tail antlers.

Awarded for:  The best Rusa antlers.

Awarded for:  The best Chamois horns.

Awarded for:  The best goat horns.

The Hewitt and Bale Cup

Awarded for:  The best drawn pig tusks.

Eligibility:  Open to all financial members of the North Auckland Branch (financial at the time of securing the trophy, and at the time of entering the trophy for measurement).

The Game Animal Skin Shield

Awarded for:  The best skin of any mature game animal.

Eligibility:  Open to all financial members of the North Auckland Branch (financial at the time of securing the trophy, and at the time of entering the trophy for measurement).

The President’s Trophy

Awarded for:  The combined score of a trophy on converted Douglas score, and a range shoot – see rules and shooting competitions.

Eligibility:  Open to all financial members of the North Auckland Branch (financial at the time of securing the trophy, and at the time of entering the trophy for measurement, and at the time of shooting the range component of the competition).

Rules:  The member must present both a game trophy ( Douglas score Red Deer equivalent), and shoot in the one-day shooting competition known as the President’s Trophy Shoot (100m, standing, 100m target, 10 shots in 10 minutes).  The shooting score is multiplied by 3 and added to the converted Douglas score of the best trophy (any species) submitted by the competitor.

The Boggs MacDonald Roaring Shield

Awarded for:  The best imitation roar of a Red Deer on the night of the annual Branch prize giving.

Eligibility:  Open to all financial members of the North Auckland Branch.

Rules:  The member must use natural roaring aids.  The competitor is specifically prohibited from using electronic devices or recordings.

The McDougal Cup

Awarded for:  The best imitation roar of a Red Deer by a female Branch member on the night of the annual Branch prize giving.

Eligibility:  Open to all female financial members of the North Auckland Branch.

Rules:  The member must use natural roaring aids.  The competitor is specifically prohibited from using electronic devices or recordings.

The Mrs. W. Diamond Shield

Awarded for:  The provider of the most game meat for use at Branch functions.

Eligibility:  Open to all financial members of the North Auckland Branch.

Rules:  The meat must be from a game animal.  The meat must be edible.  Providers are to note that the terms ‘game’ and ‘gamey’ are not synonymous.

How to Enter:  Provide edible game meat for Branch functions.
